  4. Copy your glitched text with the copy button at the top right of the output panel, then paste anywhere — Discord, Twitter, Reddit, and more.

What is glitch text (Zalgo)?

Glitch text — commonly called Zalgo text — works by stacking Unicode combining diacritical marks on top of ordinary characters. These combining characters are designed to modify the glyph they follow: accents, dots, bars, and other marks that attach above or below a letter. Stacking dozens of them on a single character causes the marks to overflow the normal line bounds, creating a chaotic, glitchy visual effect.

The name “Zalgo” comes from an early internet horror meme, where corrupted and overflowing text became associated with a fictional eldritch entity. The aesthetic caught on and spread across forums, social media, and creative writing communities as a way to signal dread, chaos, or irony.

Unlike special fonts or image-based effects, Zalgo text is pure Unicode — it can be copied and pasted into any text field that renders Unicode properly. The base characters remain intact and readable; only the visual rendering is distorted.

Where to use glitch text

Discord

Works in channel messages, usernames (in supported contexts), and status messages. Heavy intensity is popular for dramatic announcements.

Twitter / X

Glitch text renders in tweets and bios. Mild intensity is best for readability; Extreme makes your post unmissable in a feed.

Reddit

Paste glitch text in comments and posts. It renders in markdown-free contexts and adds a creepy layer to horror or meme posts.

Instagram bios

Instagram bios support Unicode, so glitch text appears in your profile. Mild intensity keeps things legible while looking stylish.

YouTube comments

Stand out in comment sections with glitched text. Works in comments and channel descriptions.

WhatsApp & Telegram

Modern messaging apps render Unicode combining marks correctly. Paste glitch text to add dramatic flair to any message.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is glitch text?

Glitch text (also called Zalgo text) is created by adding Unicode combining diacritical marks above and below normal characters. These marks stack vertically, creating a distorted, glitchy appearance. The base characters remain readable — only the visual rendering is affected.

Where can I use glitch text?

Glitch text works in any app that renders Unicode — Discord, Twitter/X, Reddit, Instagram bios, YouTube comments, WhatsApp, and most modern chat apps. Some platforms may strip combining marks; test before using.

Is this the same as Zalgo text?

Yes — glitch text and Zalgo text refer to the same technique. "Zalgo" comes from an internet horror meme, and the term stuck for this style of distorted Unicode text.

What do the intensity levels do?

Intensity controls how many combining marks are stacked per character. Mild adds 1-2 marks per character for a subtle effect. Extreme stacks 15+ marks, making text tower above and below its line.

Will glitch text break websites or apps?

Some older apps or parsers may struggle with heavy Zalgo text. Use mild or medium intensity for better compatibility. Social media platforms generally handle it fine.

Can I copy glitch text to my clipboard?

Yes — click the copy button next to the output. The full glitched text (including all combining marks) is copied and ready to paste anywhere.
